I heard Marlette is in Chapter 13 (or the company that owns them).

their bankruptcy is over. They have to honor and adhere to any new contracts just like any other company. They went bankrupt because of their finance division not necesarily their homes. They were giving loans to anyone with a heart beat. When this dept got into trouble they started to cut costs in other area's. From what I heard they came out of it in better shape than they were in quite some time. Every builder has cutomers that have said they are horrible even some of the highly regarded service oriented companies such as PH.

Oakwood bankruptcy and future is still in doubt...The bankruptcy court has NOT approved a final reorganization plan yet and has indicated that it might be late summer before they do...Much of Oakwoods future will depend on the business it does in the next couple of months...Under the current plan proposed to the court the ownership of the company will revert to its largest lender...this lender has a reputation of selling off pieces of the companies it aquires...getting as much money as they can..and letting the rest go....
Time will tell...

We just sold our beautiful custom made home. We are looking at buying a mobile home because of the money. We live in Texas Dallas Forth Worth area. I am more open to buying a mobile home but my husband is not. Could some one please tell us more about the best manufactured homes in this area? They look great on the inside, but I am concerned about the resell and quality. We don't want to live in a mobile park, but want to put the home on at least 2 acres of land. Would appreciate any feedback. We are also on a time crunch; we have to be out of this home by April 24th.

Hi Ann,

My dh and I are looking at manfactured homes also. We are in the San Antonio area. First, do not trust the looks on the inside of a home. You want a well made home that is going to structurally sound, especially if you plan to resell in the future. If you resell, would it be the home AND land? Manufactured homes are difficult to sell if they are not on permanent land.
This past week, my dh and I visited 6 manufactures in 13 different sales centers in this area. We were very impressed with Solitaire and Patriot. Palm Harbor ran a very close second. Those that did not impress us were Champion (more the sales personal than the homes themselves). We also were not pleased with Fleetwood's quality. They had a floor plan that we loved, but it would take thousands to upgrade the quality.
As for the April deadline...everyone I talked to says 30 to 60 days from the time you pick a home and find land (we also want 2 to 5 acres). Finding the home was difficult and the land nearly impossible.
I found you have to be very active in persueing both land and home. I checked nearly every day on realtor.com. I called on land that suited what I needed. And asked if they had anything else that would be what I am looking for. Through doing that we have found 3 acres that will hopefully work out.
As for a home...get Randy's books. They are very much worth the investment. I had mine in about 3 days. The information contained in them is beyond value. I know when we finally move into our home, that I was an informed buyer, and will look back with no regrets. And after looking at so many homes, his assessments are very accurate in the dealer comparisions.

Good luck in your search...

Go to HADD web site, great info. Do not trust any champion products. You can look up all champion home products. I bought one and never would again. & years old and rotted.
