2x6 construction, flooring, insulation

Post by Susan » Tue Jan 28, 2003 2:08 pm

We have pretty much deceided on a Solitare home. We do however have questions about their construction. We know they use 2x6 on the exterior and 2x4 on the interior. Would it be a good idea to spend the extra money and upgrade to 2x6 for the interior, or is it just the exterior that should be our main concern??

They use plywood for the floor, but is it better to have OSB?

Also what isulation is recommended for the floors, walls, ceiling, etc. for the Central TX area? Not much in the way of winters, but summers can be boiling!

Thanks!!

I am not certain about the flooring or you insulation question but as far as the 2x4 walls go, even site or stick built homes are constructed with 2x4 interior walls to go along with the 2x6 exterior walls.

2x6 exterior is standard here in just about all residential construction, site-built and manufactured. 2x4 is just fine inside - most of those walls don't bear any load. If you wanted the ultimate in silence, you could have insulation put into the interior walls. I know at least Karsten offer that - and if I had kids at home, I'd certainly do it. 2x6 Exterior walls allow for standard R-19 insulation.

Ask if they build an Energy Star home...that is the highest energy savings standard in the industry...
Sure do not need 2x6 interior walls...
The floors structure is unique to this plant...plywood is the best available..They way they install it is better than any I have ever heard...
For those unfamilier with this brand..go here and be impressed..
