Mr. Murray --
Are Schult and Oakwood one and the same? I know Oakwood has filed bankruptcy, but I thought Oakwood was owned by Schult......
I have a friend who is looking at purchasing a Schult.
Thanks.

Re: Schult/Oakwood
Oakwood ownes Schult...
After Oakwood bought the Schult and Marlette plants in the mid-west...They started to use the names in some of their other plants...The Schult they built in Moultrie, GA would have caused the original owners of Schult to rollover in their graves...
From what I read...Some of the mid-west product is still good...Not necessarily the Schult of the past..but a good product..They ARE in bankruptcy as part of the Oakwood family...The plants are now closed waiting on the courts to set up temporary rules...Suppliers are not delivering supplies until they know they will be paid...
Sometimes companies come out of chapter 11 bk a better company....many times they do not...the big boys get theirs and leave the rest to the courts to fight over...On the other hand...in the mid-west there are many other equally well built homes that are not in bankruptcy...

Re: Clayton Homes
Has anyone been burned by Clayton Homes? Two years ago me and my husband were looking at a home on the Clayton lot in Hickory, North Carolina.
Anyway, they wanted us to put down $50,000 before they would even consider talking with us about a new home! I was floored! Needless to say, so was my hubby. He was extremely upset. He told them if we had $50,000 we wouldn't be
here.
So now it's 2 years later and we are trying with the Clayton here in our home town. The lady salesperson seems nice but I still do not trust any manufactured housing people.
All be it, we are not and older couple. We are in our mid 30's. I felt that an older couple were treated with more respect than we were when we were at the
other dumb Clayton dealer lot. But people seem to forget that looks can be decieving. Now we have enough money to make a substancial down payment
but we are not stupid enough to fall for a sneaky deal like that. Maybe we should of alerted the Clayton home office about the practices of that dealer. What do you all think?
We are trying to get a deal on a Repo that is in a nice neighborhood. But the saleslady said Clayton approved a singlewide for us but me and my husband aren't
skinny people. A singlewide would not be enough room-plus we have a 10 yr. old son. That's need enough for more room in itself!!

Re: Clayton Homes
I would recommend that you make every effort to purchase the home that provides your needs. I sell manufactured homes in Texas, for over 20 years and I have had many people come to me after they purchased a smaller home. They are hoping to trade for something bigger.
I have sold hundreds of homes by receiving a small down payment.
But you must realize that credit and budget determine what you will qualify for.
Good luck!
