Tornados in Georgia Today and Dumb comment

Post by Mrs. X » Mon Nov 11, 2002 8:01 pm

I was watching Atlanta's Channel 11 news this morning when a reporter was describing the implosion of a house in Cartersville, GA which was hit by a tornado. Jill Becker, the news anchor, asked the reporter - "Was it a mobile home?" and the reporter said, "No, it was a house."

When will these fools finally grasp the fact that "mobile homes" ARE houses? And why is it that we're not hearing people talk about site-built houses being "tornado magnets"? Also damaged in today's storm was a brick house next to the house that imploded and a site-built restaurant which was totally demolished, along with numerous other structures. This just undescores the fact that NOTHING in the path of a tornado is going to withstand the impact of 200 mph winds.

True...matter of fact..I just heard a report from the TN county most effected...

The reporter and the local governement official were shocked that 24 site built homes were destroyed and only 12 manufactured homes...GEEZ...Destroyed is destroyed...what does it matter where the house was built..

Hello, I believe you are right. I own a 1986 Cameo Manufactured home that was manufactured in Diboll, Texas. I live in the tornado alley in the panhandle area and my home has survied 3 tornado attacks which came up less than 500 feet and the only thing I lost were some shingles. My home is well anchored down and have hurricane straps every 4' apart. I have houses around my area which have been destroyed and my home is still standing up. My neighbors couldn't believe it all, that my home survived the tornado 3 times. I don't what will happen when the 4th one comes around. Survivor in Texas

I think that proves that the brainwashing of the general public has been successful and that nobody thinks for themselves anymore. They see some white trash like that unfunny female "comic" Brett Butler, making jokes about living in a trailer with other "trailer trash' and people just soak it up like sponges, never questioning anything - just going along with whatever is being programmed into their heads by various intellectual midgets.

For example - I stopped at a yard sale recently and was talking to the slovenly, dissipated-looking female home-owner of a 60-year old brick house that was in very poor condition and had been bequeathed to her by her father. She mentioned that she was trying to rent out a room because she'd been having severe financial problems and had filed bankruptcy She said she wanted to get "out in the country" and since the house was sitting on 4 prime acres, I asked her if she'd ever considered selling the property and buying a manufactured home in a rural area. "Oh, no!" Mrs. Slattern said. "My daddy would turn over in his grave if he thought I'd bought a trailer!"

I could hardly contain the laughter! What would Daddy think about his down-and-out daughter who, it turned out, was 48 years old but whom I took to be - EASILY - 58 - and she's slopping around in worn out sweat pants, an old tee shirt and flip-flops - no makeup - had hardly combed her hair and she's reduced to RENTING OUT A ROOM, but she's too "proud" to buy herself a large (compared to her house), airy, well-built, energy-efficient, economical manufactured home and she's looking down on people who do.

Not only did she not see herself as she really is - she's bought into the myth about manufactured housing and the kinds of people who live in them.

I could have set her straight but I learned a long time ago - Don't Argue with Stupidity!
