how long from order to delivery?

Post by Sandra » Thu Aug 29, 2002 4:02 pm

Call me skeptical, but, how much credence do we put into a salesman's estimate of how long it will take to get our home? We're impatient. We're putting a basement under the house, so buying a lot model is not possible, or at least we've not seen any on lots that are set up for a basement.
Anyway, I've heard 6 to 8 weeks from the time we order the home to the date of delivery. This seems reasonable (like I'd know what reasonable is). Do I believe a Schult dealer (in Indiana) who says she's been seeing them completed in 3 to 4 weeks?
Thanks

Order backlogs vary from factory to factory...Custom orders that involve moving walls and such usually take a little longer...maybe 2 weeks longer..

The backlogs at most plants now are less than 4 weeks...but there may be one or two longer...Usually once the dealer places the order..he will have a fairly accurate delivery estimate with in a few days...

There are 2 basic ways the factories schedule homes...Most common with high quality homes they are sceduled as they come in....Some higher volumn plants do production runs....that means they have to have a certian number of orders for the floor plan you are ordering before they build them....This can cause unexpected delays if you are ordering an unusual floor plan from one of these factories...

Ask you sales person if the plant is on production runs...if so are you ordering a popular floorplan...

Good Luck
