I have just finished reading most of the forum items posted during the past month. I am a little surprised that no one mentioned Franklin Homes, built in northern Alabama. I have looked at several of them at a retailer's lot, and I was quite impressed with them. As a matter of fact, unless something drastic happens to change my mind, I am planning to order one as soon as I find the land to put it on. BTW, I am in Alabama but only a few miles from Georgia.
Does anyone out there have any experience with the Franklin Homes, good or bad?

Re: Franklin Homes
I was also impressed with Franklin Homes when I went to the Five-Star dealership in Bowden, GA, but what I don't like is - you can't get vaulted ceilings even as an option. They just plain-don't-make-them-that-way. This may seem like an unimportant feature to some, but I've GOT to have a vaulted ceiling. Other than that, though, I thought the houses were very impressive, and that salesman over there (I've forgotten his name but he was one of the owners) was very knowledgeable. Good luck!
Re: Franklin Homes
That's Bowdon, GA. I think you must be referring to Jerry Rollins. Not only is he knowledgeable about his homes, he also plays a pretty mean bass guitar! I have known him practically all my life, and he is a really nice guy. If you have not guessed, I am originally from Bowdon and will be moving back there in a week or so.
The unavailability of the vaulted ceilings does not bother me at all, as I do not want one of those. I always figured that is just heating and cooling air that is not used. I like the eight-foot side walls and the finished sheetrock.
Where do you live, Peggy? Have you bought a home?

Re: Franklin Homes
I live in Cherokee County, GA, but have been looking for unrestricted land in north Georgia for a manufactured home. No, I haven't bought either yet.
The man I talked to at Five Star was Rodney Walker (I just found his card) and I THOUGHT he was one of the owners, but I may have misunderstood. He was very knowledgeable, very personable, and he shared my political views, but I've STILL got to have that vaulted ceiling. I know most men don't care about these things, being the practical creatures that you are, but I'm IMpractical and I WANT MY VAULTED CEILING!!!!!!!!!! Another thing I liked about the Franklins is - you can get a high-pitched roof that looks almost like a site-built house (for more money, of course).
