What do you all think about Cedar. Time and money involved in upkeep?
I liove the look, but was told upkeep is high. Does anyone have experience or info. on this?

THanks,

Depends on your expectations...

If you want to keep that fresh orange look that many like, you will have to seal the siding on a regular basis...The frequency depends on the quality of the sealer you chose...Even then...the sides will weather differently and eventually the siding will be different colors around the home..

If you like that natural look of grey cedar...you have to do very little..The aginjg process will take a few years..during which the home will have different colors around...evewntually the whole home will be that natural grey that is very fashionable right now..

Natural cedar will last very long...also...no bugs will go near it and help keep the home bug free.. (think about tobacco barns, cedar chest and cedar lined closets...all for bug control..

Termites are bugs....They as other bugs avoid cedar..

Wood peckers are another story...but they peck at wood to dig out the bugs who make a home in it...There are no bugs in the cedar...Unfortunately some woodpeckers are not too smart and do peckaway just because it looks and feels like other wood...I guess..

Don't you enjoy nature?
