Comparison Between Three

Post by Dale » Fri Jul 12, 2002 12:30 pm

If choosing between a Clayton, Cavalier or Palm Harbor, in the single-wide size of 14' X 66' shingle over vinyl are there any suggestions as to which company would be the better made of the three? I'm in the Augusta, GA. Also, what could one expect as a ball park price with set up and delivery in that size if the home is a "middle of the road" style level (not fancy or bottom of the line)?

Thanks for any suggestions or info.

I am not totally sure about Palm Harbor...but..I think Palm Harbor and Cavalier (I am sure about this) come only in 16 wides...and almost all 80 feet long..Clayton probably does still build some 14s

But...14s are essentially obsolete..If there are a few in the Augusta market...they will be lowest end homes available..They will become purely a price piece..and quality will not be there..

Horton does also still build some 14's...

16 wide Cavalier and Hortons run about 30K with skirting and a/c...delivered to your site..

Have you looked at good used homes yet???/There are many high quality 14's available...One comes to mind..14x80 3bed2 bath...delux model well cared for for 12,900 w/a/c and skirting..

I'm going to use this as a weekend recreational retreat. I've thought about a used model but I really don't want to buy someone else's problems. If I followed through on the used model, it would certainly have to be one or two year old model with plywood floors & shingle roof.

If I were to go with a new 16' X 66' or 16 X 56' (if available), quality wise in the Augusta, GA, area what is a good brand to go with? I've looked at the Palm Harbor, Cavalier Clayton and Fleetwood brands (almost all 16 X 80) and I don't see a lot of difference in those four companies' products.

My biggest three biggest desires in a unit would probably be plywood floors, vinyl siding & shingle roof. The more research I do on manufactured home, the more gun shy I'm becoming. So, the greatest factor of all is going to be a dealer who after the sale who will fix a problem promptly if one materializes.

Finally, I'm assuming the best deal on a new unit is going to come from the lot rather than through a special order, right???

Thanks very much for any info.

Colony and Clayton - Norris seem to offer some of the better structures. 16" on center for floor, roof, and walls. However, each different model may have different specs, so be sure to choose the model with the better construction.

Stop by the store when you get a chance...Melvin Williams...The one across from the Dodoge dealer...This is where my office is..

Small single in the Augusta market are a price pieces and not of the best quality...Some...Cavalier have great features....

The best singles...Top of the line Hortons and Homes of Merits are nearly and could be over $ 40,000...There is not much market here for this...

Since prices are rising all the time...stock homes sometimes are better deals...But...to get all the features you want you might have to order...

Hope to see you next week..Hope your relaxing weekend went fine..
