Elongated Toilets
Elongated Toilets
Are round toilets standard in most manufactured homes? I was surprised to see them in Palm Harbors and Southern Energy. Homestead - which is a lower end home - uses the elongated models. The dealer at Southern Energy said he wasn't sure whether the oval toilet would be an option. Why Not? I HATE round toilets - they should've gone the way of the horse and buggy. And when you can upgrade all sorts of other items in a home, why not the toilet? Seems like that ought to be a fairly simple request.

Check out Home of Merit...They have this same feature that you like...Most manufacturers have one supplier of fixtures and offer only that one to the public...I am like you...this fixture is the most used...least talked about in the home...
You can always change them after you get the home...If this is the only problem..a few hundred dollars is all you are talking about...Actually if you were my customer...and you wanted a SE or PH...I would have already told you no problem...
A dealer can go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy different fixtures just as easily as you can...You might need to find a different dealer if they are not there to serve your needs..
Also....You should not be so negative about the Homestead...All Cavalier products are the best buy on the market today in the SE...The features in the Homestead are FAR better than those in SE and at least as good or better than PH if the PH comes from GA or AL...Basic construction can be remedied in the Homestead by ordering it as a Wind Zone 2 or 3 home...This beefs up the basic construction to make it stand beside the best...By the way...the Homestead salesperson must be fairly good to even point out this feature..

Re: Elongated Toilets
I didn't mean to sound negative about the Homestead - I liked the models I looked at - except that you can't have a white kitchen - only oak or oak-stained cabinets, which I hate - but I thought it was you, Mr. Murray, who said that you have to be careful about slamming doors in a Homestead because of the flimsy (my word, not yours) walls. As for the toilets - I thought the base of the oval models was shaped differently (wider), . If that's the case, then the bathroom floor covering would have to be cut in order to accommodate the wider base if the toilets were switched out after the house had been set. That's why I wanted to order the oval toilets WITH the home.
But, No - I like Homestead - the price is certainly right and they have some good floorplans. Hope I didn't ruffle any feathers.

No problems here...things change..In the last 12 months Homestead and all of Cavalier have made improvements with 3 different model change upgrades...The slamming door problems seems to have been fixed...Maybe even because of my comments here..
Cavalier monitors these boards and others like them for consumer and dealer comments...Matter of fact they must have seen your earlier post about white kitchens...
Homestead and all Cavalier products now offer along with the Oak cabinets...very high grade white or Maple...They are an option...but one that you seem to be willing to pay...Cost is $ 1000...We just got our first home with Maple....They are a light Maple...WOW...I have never seen as nice of cabinets in any manufactured home...matter of fact most of my friends with $500,000 custom homes would be envious..
Good point about the floor covering...but it goes under the commode...not around...You should be able to change fixtures after purchase with not much problem...We have done it a few times...never had any problems..

Re: Elongated Toilets
A THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR A WHITE KITCHEN?????? Why? I'm not so sure I'd want to pay that much extra. Isn't it just white paint over wood or am I dumb? As for the manufacturers monitoring these boards and responding - I guess that proves that the computer is mightier than the sword.
Re: Elongated Toilets
The cabinets are not painted wood...They are a high quality compsite material that is treated to stay white...Should never yellow..If you get white you must get the very best or you will have problems in the future with discoloration..
I think you are right though..I think they are making a little extra profit on them...but the home is such a value...the overall price is still very good..

Re: Elongated Toilets
Okay, well, I intend to die in that house if I ever get it bought, so I guess a thousand dollars isn't much to pay for quality. As for the $500,000 houses, I have discovered something that I'll bet a lot of folks don't know. When you pay that much for a house, you're paying for SQUARE FOOTAGE, not quality. A half million dollar house is not built with any more craftsmanship than a $150,000 house (generally speaking). I know people may not believe that, but it's true. I've become convinced, after visiting this website and websites of different mobile home manufacturers over the past year ,that the quality of a house built on an assembly line is probably higher than that of the average site built house. This website has been extremely informative to me - and entertaining - and when I finally DO make that purchase, I hope to become this site's Resident Bore.
Re: Elongated Toilets
Go to the cavalier site and look through the various manufacturer models. You will see white, you will see maple (which I would have loved to have, but oh well.), and you will see white cabinets. I would have loved to have upgraded the cabinets in my homestead, but it wasn't in my budget.
I will say this: After walking through countless Fleetwood & Clayton homes, there is NO QUESTION the cavalier cabinets are great quality. No ugly brassy cheapo handles either. You cannot go wrong with built in lazy suzans either.
I did slam doors in the display model, they seemed to hold up pretty well, and I didn't knock anything off the wall. If any of the dealer personnel were near, I'm sure they were wondering what in the heck I was doing.
