solar water heater on manufacture home

Post by Christophe » Fri Jun 07, 2002 6:04 pm

Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a manufacture home in Southern CA. Since we have sun all the year long we can at least try to get something out of it. So, I was wondering about getting a manufacture home with a solar water heater on it. I asked two different retailers and they said it should be possible but weren't sure. I contacted the Silvercrest factorysince I like their floor plan but they never answered about that. Is it possible to have a solar heater installed from the begining? or set up afterward?
Does it really worth it (I have kids and they use a lot of hot water)?
Thanks in advance,
Christophe

I have a friend that has a solar hot water set-up on his roof - he has disconected it and is using a standard again after several frustrating years of cold water for a week or so here and there. Unless you are in AZ desert, it may not be the best choice. Especially considering that the cost of gas to run the thing is maybe $7 a month.

The cost of gas refers to a standard hot water heater - just realized that my response may not be too clear.
