Redman or Titan
Redman or Titan
I like the Redman model #A183, "The Entertainers" and the Titan model #617 "New England Manor" series. Anyone have any negatives or positives about these two manufacturers or models? Also, I can't seem to get either one to tell me exactly what the sub flooring is ---- ? I want to be sure I don't get particle board that will fall apart. Redman told me the ceilings were some kind of board that was sprayed. Is this OK? Are most done this way?
Re: Redman or Titan
I've been looking at Clayton and Redman for the last four months. The Redmans that I have seen are using a type of particle board flooring; may be NovaDeck or Cresdeck, the brochures don't say and the color of the material does not seem different from my particle board floors in my MH. My floors are a total disaster, especially with the 24" on center floor joists. All of the Clayton Homes I've seen have impressed me. The brochure for the model I like says tongue and groove osb. plywood with floor joists on 16" center. Some other models of Clayton will vary in the materials. Even the roof truss system is on 16" center which is a real plus. If the brochure for the exact model you are looking at does not tell you what and / or how, then the manufacturer does not want to advertise that that model is NOT built as well. As far as HUD code goes, that does not tell you of what and or how the MH is built, only that at the factory the MH passed the test for HUD. It kind of rings a bell if the dealer can't explain the materials and or construction of their product; either they don't know, or they don't want you to know.... READ THE BROCHURES You may want to get Randy Eaton's Book of comparisons of MHs.... Well worth the money...
Re: Redman or Titan
Don't buy the Redman. We did, and now are having to have our floors replaced since the warranty does not cover the sub flooring. We have a 99 model, and have had problems with the floor for the past 2 years. We have several soft spots through out the house caused from the crappy particle board they used.. We received no help from Redman, the dealer, the warranty supplier, or the State of Florida. We are now having to pay for a new floor in a new mobile home.
Re: Redman or Titan
redmond in az offers a 3/4" plywood upgrade for the floors - that's better than 5/8" osb. it runs about the same price as the osb upgrade for others (they don't offer osb upgrade).
sounds like you may need a new dealer for redmond to get an accurate comparison. any salesperson should be able to pick up the phone and call the factory for info - if they can't do that - i'd seriously doubt if they'd stand behind your home, either.
