Attention Randy re: Oak creek, American Homestar, Cavco
First of all I recently purchased your comparison guide and I am so thankful I did. I view homes in a whole different light now after reading your book. We have been looking for a quality manufactured home in the houston, Texas area. I have visited with nationwide homes who sell Oak creek, a division of American homestar. They are quoting us on an oak creek model following your quality construction guidelines and with a 7/12" pitch on a floor plan I really like.I did not read anything about American Homestar or Oak Creek in your guide or on your discussion board. Do you have any input?
We are also looking at the Patriot, Park ave series and Cavco. Did you know Cavco is not producing any more doublewides in texas? You cannot order one, but they are putting a big push on aged inventory. What's the deal with that? They say they will start manufacturing again in 2003 with some changes. There are some good deals on aged inventory doublewides with tape and texture, up flow air, etc..but I wonder why? I am a little concerned about stability and service after purchase. Most of the homes available are 2"x4" exterior walls. Should I avoid at all costs? Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,
trying to be better informed consumer

Re: oak creek
Hello Laura,
I like Oak Creek and if you're getting a 7-12 roof pitch with lap siding and 2x6 exterior walls with sheet rock throughout you'll be in good shape. I don't know much about American Homestare but follow my construction guide and you'll be fine. Good luck.

Re: oak creek
Laura,
I live in Houston and would invite you to see the new home I've been delivered in February. See my prior posting for a few details. The short version is after you see what has been presented to me as a move-in condition - well you make your own decisions. Let's just say it doesn't look very much like the model home to me!
Now I think I know where Jerry Springer gets his guests - Nationwide.

And before I forget - check the Houston Better Business Bureau with regards to Nationwide. I just did for the first time tonight, and would never have done business before if I'd check it first like I should have.
