Warning: "Rinwood Homes"

Post by Linda » Sun Nov 30, 2003 3:05 pm

I purchased a new manufactured home in Leisure Mobile Home Park in Santa Rosa, CA from John G., who owned the park at that time. He then sold the park. Upon attempting to contact the seller for warranty repairs needed, he now cannot be located. His business "Rinwood Homes" in Henderson, Nevada has no listing in the yellow pages and no hits on Web searches. Upon contacting the Park management for this seller's contact information for warranty repairs needed, this was refused because "He doesn't like us to give out that information" and they offered to have the park handyman do the repairs, but refused to release the seller's contact information.

I also recently received a letter from the Sonoma County Assessor's office stating that John G. never filed the Dealers Report of Sale, as required by the State of California.

This message has two purposes: (1) a warning to new buyers and (2) an attempt to locate others who have had problems with this seller, should a class action suit become necessary.

If you have any information, please contact me here or by email.

Thanks,

Linda

Actually the warranty is by the manufacturer...not the park...you should be in touch with you factory to be sure repairs are done..

Also....seems the management has offered to send some one over...What more could you ask...???...

The seller stated that the 1 year warranty was from the time of purchase, but the home had been installed 6 months prior. I now understand that the home is under warranty from the date of installation - not date of sale. Therefore it it no longer under warranty by the manufacturer.

For them to actually show up??? My first request was SEVEN months ago. Still nothing.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I get the feeling from your statement that you find nothing wrong with a seller offering a 1-year warranty, skipping out and telling others in the business not to tell his customers where he can be located and failing to make the repairs. ???

The manufacturer has an excellent reputation and chances are they will assist in this situation, but people really need to be warned about this owner of "Rinwood Homes".

If the dealer was a licensed dealer...and he bought the home from the factory...The warranty starts the first day the original purchaser buys the home....Any other info is not correct...

Now...if the park bought the home from another dealer or lender..he is the original purchaser and the factory is correct...This home would (should) not be sold as new...It might be called a dealer repo...never lived in repo...something of the sort..In cases like these..the factory is NOT liable for any warranty...since all warranties are to the original purchaser and not transferable...

Now...both the factory and the dealer have offered to help...what else could you possibly want....Remember...businesses are made up of flesh and blood people...with all the flaws and good points..candidly if I was the dealer..had offered to take care of the problems that may not even be mine and saw this tiraide..my feelings would be hurt and I would be likely to put your service order into the pile labled..get around to it when I have a chance...not the pile labeled immediate attention..

Most parks are owned by corporate owners..that means there is no single owner..they are owned by thousands of stockholders..management is usually set up to handle all situations..

Good Luck...

Maybe you could work out a deal with Rinwood Homes to represent them.

My guess is that you have NO written warranty except the factory warranty....If you want your problems taken care of..read your manual and call the plant...better yet..write the plant since it is always better to have requests in writing..

I do have a written warranty, from both seller and manufacturer. That isn't the problem. The problem is being dealt with.

The purpose of my post is to simply warn new buyers, since this guy is still selling manufactured homes in the park, yet his business, in another state, doesn't seem to exist.

Even though we disagree on "business ethics" involved in this situation, I appreciate your input and contribution to this forum.
