Champion Homes are #1

Post by ROBERT » Thu Mar 07, 2002 7:43 pm

Hello,
I just wanted to introduce myself to anyone in the Arizona region that was considering purchasing a factory built home. Our company is the retail arm for Champion Homes, which has sold the largest amount of factory built homes for the LAST 15 years. Champion has been building quality homes since 1937.
I know buying your first home can be stressful or leave you feeling uncertian. If you need any information on factory built homes give me a call at toll free 1-800-709-0696 and I'd be happy to give you some information.

Work at the Factory

I have had a lot of calls resulting from this posting and wanted to let the readers know a little more about Homes America.
If you would like to come down and take a tour of our factory in Chandler, Arizona, I would be happy to take you through. You can see where the first component to our homes enters the factory and follow the process until the finished home is rolled into our shipping area for final placement in a neighboorhood, park, or private acreage.
Once again, feel free to call if you have ANY questions about factory built homes or the process of buying all the way to living in your own. Thank you.

Champion Homes are JUNK!

Post by Nancy » Mon Mar 18, 2002 2:03 pm

Robert,
I lived in a Champion Home before, built form Berthod, Colorado. Titan Home, 1986, 16x80 and lived in Sterling, Colorado. Champion uses alot of cheap imitation wood material. Hardboard siding that swells out when it gets wet, ceiling started to sag down where you could see humps going up and down. Cheap plastic sinks, faucets, and bathtub, shower stalls that leaked. Built on a very cheap chassis. I had this home moved from Sterling, Colorado, to Arizona because of job replacement, and this home was built on a cheap chassis, when it was transported the chassis was like a piece of wire where it sagged down. That's why I would never go back to a Champion home. I chose a Karsten Home instead that's built better than a Champion Home. I hear Champion Homes race their homes thru the factory like if their's no tomorrow. Is this still true. I can rate you #1 building fine quality junk homes.

You must be mistaken or trying to stir up business. I have never owned a Champion (Silvercrest) home but I just took the 2 hour tour on Saturday and was very impressed. They are built better than most stick built homes. We were so impressed we are seriously considering buying one to put on our acreage. Don't be misled people, take the tour or do the research. You'll see for yourself. Don't take anyones word for it. Check it out yourself. You'll be very impressed. We sure were and my husband is a contractor.

Jody,
Silvercrest was a Western Homes Corporation and was bought out by Redman homes in 1992. After that Silvercrest/Redman Homes was bought out by Champion Home Builders. At this time they are cutting corners. I have a friend who owns a dealership and he tells me that after Silvercrest Homes was acquired by Champion they started to cut corners. I lived in a Champion Home that was manufactured in Berthod, Colorado, Titan Homes, and now it's Summet Crest Homes. I would never trust the name Champion again. I learned from my own experience. Good luck Nancy

Nancy:

Is it possible since your home was built in 1986, 16 years later the built quality of Champion has improved? Yes, it does sound like you had a poor quality home. Some of the items you listed like plastic sinks you should have investigated prior to purchase? Nice to know you are satisfied with your present home.

I agree they are "junk" for the most part!! I LIVE in a Titan home built in 1997, and am in a community. I have watched as many people have had a variety of complaints of things falling apart! It is correct that the interiors are not comprised of much wood!! Most of my wood trim near the ceiling was poorly fitted and is slowly popping out in spots. Plus after first moving in, I noticed in the master bath that the wallboards were yellowed, entire panels. As a result, Titan sent two turkeys to replace these walls. HA! That consisted of their being here from morning until night, taking off the wall between the master bath and my bedroom. What a joke. I think they were in such a hurry that when they finished, my doorway and wall they put back up is NOT level, and since the door has almost fallen off with the etire frame around it. The shower is not "sticking" all too well to the wall, and the list goes on!!!!
Also the majority of people in the park have problems with virtually all the inside door knobs that are literally falling apart. Due to the type they are, you cannot find them in ANY normal store other than a mobile home place! Nancy is right...the only stainless sink is in the kitchen, the rest are plastic.
Since I have had the home, I freeze in the winter...the "airtight" thermal windows stink...My closets in the house on the opposite end of the furnace could probably freeze meat!!!! I did pay for upgraded insulation, which I highly doubt is there...And lastly, I emailed the company which is now Champion, with my info and they never even gave me the courtesy of emailing back!!! Sort of the similar relationship with the park owners here. Their whole take on anything is this..."Oh geez...It is more than a year since you bought the house...too bad so sad."
I tell you this....IF I EVER bought another.....which I would NOT, it would never be in a park at the mercy of owners that are neglectful and can care less about the people. They only care about lot rent increases. Furthermore...if I wanted to do repairs being in a "new" house under 5 years, I could have bought a "this old house version." There is no wear and tear as I am the only one living here!!!!!!!
Furthermore, I have had the house up for sale now 2 years plus and almost every realtor said "bad move" as they do NOT appreciate, only maybe if on your own land, and as a result if I get lucky to sell, after all I have put in, not to mention the purchase of 58 grand...It will cost me a grand to pay the realtor commission.
I advise anyone to save your money and buy a house. I am sure people will disagree, but you can check out the park I am in and the majority of the people can give lists the size of your arms as to what is wrong with the houses. They are built very cheap!!!!!!!!
Sorry to disillusion any prospective buyers...I wish I knew then what I know now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
