Terry---solitaire homes
Have a question, Just bought a solitaire home, and to my amazement the shower heads are so high I can't reach them, Is this standard? Also even though the moen faucets are through out the house, they are really cheap looking, and that garden tub, who can relax in there, I can't even straighen my legs out.Enough venting, anyone have these problems? I would love to have some input, mabey I would fill I haven't made such a big mistake in buying this home.
RE: Terry---solitaire homes
See what I mean about these manufactured homes all "basically" being the same, contruction wise? I've said it MANY times on this forum that it doesn't seem worth it,(to me), to spend $20-$30, or even $50, 000 more for a "name brand" home like Solitaire. Now, Joy, Please don't get me wrong. I don't want to, in ANY way, say anything bad about your home. From what I've heard, Solitaire builds one of the nicest homes out there. Now, on to your concern, I just moved into a brand new Redman Home. 1500 sq. ft. double wide. My shower head is kind of high, compared to the one in the home I moved from(a site built home), but it doesn't seem too high for me. I'm just under 6 ft. tall. We also got the garden tub with the whirlpool option, and it seems to have plenty of room. I can lean back against the back end of the tub, and seems to have plenty of room. We are in the Dallas Ft. Worth area, and bought our house for around $37,000. Not stripped down either. Lot's of nice options. We opted to just take the plain, basic faucets though, with the intention of putting in nicer one's ourselves later. On most of these homes, even though you get Moen faucets, they usually go with the basic, plainest one's. I didn't see the need in paying an arm and a leg for them to put what they call "nice" faucets. You think your faucets are cheap, you should see mine! Mine are ALL plastic! I'll be putting in nicer one's soon. Also, we put our own ceiling fans in. We paid to have the bracing put up, and we put the ceiling fans up ourselves. Again, I didn't want to pay over $100 a piece for their fans. I hear, all the time, people talking about paying $60 to $80,000 for these homes! I can't believe that! Joy, I really think all the garden tubs are the same size, basically, but if you want me to measure mine, and also the height of my shower head so you can compare it to yours, let me know. Maybe they did put your's a little too high. Let me know.

RE: Terry---solitaire homes
Thanks L. for your reponse. I intend to make them move the shower heads, they are just to high , mabey to keep the water from splashing. I had already figured out that Solitaire wasn't any different than others as far as cheap, cheap. I think they have a big big place where all the mobile homes get there supplies, and they are strictly for mobile homes, because you don't see this stuff at your hardware stores. While I'm gripeing Solitaire doesn't put in any towel racks, tp holders, no steps and no skirting, so you pay for those sheet rock walls you get through out the house, it was cheaper than the palm harbor though, and much less aggressive sales people thant plam harbor.. By the time you get all this stuff you need to set up house, you better not have spent all your money at the sales lot. Yes I agree this house is probably built better than most, but my son has a nationwide{now bankrupt} my daughter has a palm harbor{beatiful}but lots of little things wrong and no service}They have contacted an attorney and been adviced that they were waisting there time, they would never get any satifaction. And they haven't. And still we now have a solitaire parked out here. What my point is that I doublt the solitaire will hold up for 30 years {lenght of loan} any longer than the poorer built homes. Oh well just my thoughts. JOY

Joy,
I am 5' 2" 1/2" and I don't have any problems reaching my shower heads. And I can not believe your home didnt come standard with steps, towel racks, TP holders, skirting etc. Our house came with all of that and we have beautiful Moen faucets. Ours is a Golden West. It actaully surprises me that all MH comes with that stuff. Our dealer told us ours would be completly ready to move in once it was set up and I guess he was right.

I have not heard of a golden west. who makes this one? I am beginning to feel like i have made a big mistake. I have to try and make the best of it now. Thanks for the input. JOY
RE: Terry---solitaire homes
Joy, Maybe you need to wear high heels or grow a little more. I am only 5' 5" and it's just fine for me. Remember Solitaire isn't a cheap home. You have bought one of the finest home in the manufactured housing business. The shower heads up at 6'5" and that's the normal height it's at. You have one of the best sinks and faucets, and elognated toilets, not the cheap small one's. appreciate how your home was built, nothing your home was cheap. Solitaire doesn't provide towel, or toilet holders. That's where you come in and see what you like and intall them your self. REMEMBER SOLITAIRE ISN'T CHEAP. I DEFEND THAT NAME BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND OVER 48 YEARS AND ALWAYS USED THE BEST MATERIALS IN THE INDUSTRY. Have a good day. Terry PROUD OWNER OF 2 SOLITAIRE HOMES.
RE: Terry---solitaire homes
WELL!! I guess you put me in my place. I still think the shower heads are to tall, I'm not short. I just feel like I can't keep buying things when I have already spent so much on the home. I do agree Solitaire isn't cheap. I will try and appreicate what I have and quit whinning. Thanks JOY
RE: Terry---solitaire homes
Joy, My wife and I are about to buy a Solitaire. We were told up front about the extras that are not included. I think that they are very small compared to how well the house is built. One question I have for you is, didn't you pay attention to the shower before you bought the house? I'm not trying to pick on you, but if I'm going to spend this kind of money, I want to know all that I can about it. But it still comes down to "you can't please everyone".
RE: Terry---solitaire homes
Hi Eric, I made five trips to look at Solitaire homes. {150round trip for me} I thought I had looked at everything. Apparently I missed these things. I heard about the contruction of the home a lot. Also got the package with all the extras.I read a lot of Terry's posts, and didn't have a doubt about my decision. Guess being a single parent, the nerves have kicked in. You didn't say how high your shower heads are.

RE: Terry---solitaire homes
Joy, It sounds like you looked them over pretty good. Did they not tell you about not coming with skirting, towl racks and tp roll? We haven't bought ours yet, but we are going with the solitaire. I like the Palm Harbor Homes, but you can't beat the cost of the solitaire. And no, I didn't pay any attention to how high the shower heads are...I'll take a look next time I'm there. Just out of curiosity, why did you go with the solitaire? Like I said, we haven't done it yet, is there anything else that you don't like about it so far?
