2x6 vs 2x4 exterior walls

Besides the insulation factor why are 2x6 walls recommended in your book? I have looked at Norris homes which have 2x4 walls but have 5/8" OSB panels as siding. Is this a good compromise vs 2x6 with that cheap sheathing? Thanks

2x6 is also a sturdier construction. But if you end up getting 2x4 then bump your insulation upto super good sence as it's almost the save R value as with the 2x6 construction.

I am not an expert. This is just what I have been told.

Hello Ken,

2x6 walls will allow you to have more insulation versus a 2x4 wall. Now in some states like AZ were the weather is mild the insulation factor is not that big of deal 2x4 are standard in the state. But typically 2x6 walls are recommended and being the home has to travel down the road to get to your site 2x6 are 30% stronger then 2x4's.
