storms and manufactured housing

okay I got anothe question. During a tornado warning you always hear to "get out of mobile homes" I know that the manufactured homes are not considered mobile homes anymore but are you just as safe in a manufactured home as you are in a site built home? Naturally, any home won't withstand a direct hit from a tornado but I wonder if during a storm wind gets up under the home how safe it is. We live in Texas right in "tornado alley" and are buying a Solitaire. Thanks

Yes but without a basement or storm shelter, you're not safe in either. And, in either case, the home can be built, or placed, on a basement.

Last weeks devastating tornadoes in TN were all cat. 1 storms..but they destroyed scores of high end newer stick builts...Folks died there last week for the second week in a row...Underground storm shelters are the only sure way to protect yourself from a tornado...

Traditional foundations offer little protection from wind damage because the
home literally sits on top of the foundation. The newer engineered systems
solidly anchor your home and footing...and have been safety certified in high
winds. For a better idea of what is available today take a look at the FOUNDATION WORKS  web
site
