Manufactured Home tie downs

Post by Nathan Hunt » Sat Feb 25, 2006 4:32 pm

I am buying a home in Black River, NY. It is a manufacture double wide manufactured in 1986. the VA inspected the home and said that a contractor needs to install tie downs. The home is on a slab of concrete and has concrete skirting. How is a contractor supposed to install tie downs in a prexisting slab?

There are many tiedown systems...some do not require anchors into the ground..

First step would be to find a tie down contractor in your area..If the home is in a park..ask the manager for a reffera..or find a manufactured home supply store and ask for a refferal to one...

You can find a system tha does not require ground anchors her...This web site is wholesale only...

Would drilling holes in the slab and attaching tie downs to those be a suitable option for installing tie downs in a preexisiting home? We are in Wind Zone I.

Some zoning requires a certain amount of concrete for each anchor bolted to it. Some, however, do not. Check your local codes. U-shaped anchors that bolt to the concrete are easy to install, as are the straps to tie down the home. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, seek a professional.

the home I am buying was manufactured in 1986 have you ever heard of a home being put on a concrete slad (even in 1986) that did not have ground anchors in it?
