A/C connected by large duct tube?

Post by Mrs. Smith » Wed Mar 26, 2003 9:07 pm

Hi, I'm new but had a question...we are considering purchasing a 1992 Champion in fantastic condition, glamour bath, wood cabinets, the works. Our hesitation is that it seems to have a strange air conditioning unit...it is connected under the home the whole way to the outside by a large duct pipe! (As opposed to just seeing the power cables & coolant tube snaking out.) About 1 foot in diameter is the pipe. Does anyone know anything about this type of air-conditioning, or has ever owned one? Thank you!

This is called a self contained air conditioner...meaning the whole a/c is out side...It is preferred by many folks because the air blower is outside the home and it makes the house much quieter.....The flex ducts that attach to the house have to be maintained and sooner or later will have to be changed...This type os a/c was the only type used in the industry for many years...They are still used by many customers for a much quiter home...if this is important to you...you will like this unit..

Hi i had a coleman self contained unit on a previous mobile home and loved it.When i sold the MH the person that bought it did not even have to get an ac man to recharge it because it is self contained.Should be cheaper to get rehooked up.Good luck.........
