Bathtub Drain

Am replacing an old bathtub drain with a new pop-up drain. Cannot get the drain to screw all the way down. How can I remedy this without breaking the threads on the drain?

You may not have the correct fitting under the tub. The appropriate fitting is call a "tray plug adapter". It has sufficient length of threads to screw in any drain plug. If you just have a threaded clean out adp. it is not sufficient in length.
