who's supposed to clean up the mess?

Post by ParadoxDSF » Wed Mar 19, 2003 10:36 pm

After my manufactured home was set up and the garage built, there was a ton of debris (including the plastic the home was wrapped in, and bits and pieces of junk lumber) left scattered ALL over the front yard and at various other places on the property. The set-up crew told me it was my responsibility to clean up and dispose of everything, but it seems to me the dealer should have some sort of arrangement for this sort of thing. Figure it into the price of the home, but don't leave a huge mess like that for the customer to take care of.....

This must be something that varies from place to place and is soemthing I'd like to better address where I to ever do it again.
Though we didn't get the mess you were left with, we were left with alot of concrete everywhere from the brickwork, a very neven and rutted yard and several low spots aroudn the foundation (one under the compressor!) I did have them come back and address the grading aroudn the house. When our neighboors moved in, it was amazing...they not only had grading, but landscaping done, grass seed put down, a sidewalk to driveway...it looks so nice. No doubt that costs and I'm sure it's priced in osmewhere, but we were never offered this option and I sure woulda liked to :)

Dealers have many different policies...Seems your dealer could have done much more..have you asked them directly?..Often the contract set up crews will try to get away with as little as possible...

These added services are one of the reasons that the lowest price is not always the best deal...There are many places for dealers to cut corners if they want...Clean up is one of them...

Good Luck with your new home..

Our yard was a MESS from the brickwork (we are still hauling out concrete globs), but when the inside of the house was completed during setup, the house was *spotless*. I had one small box of leftover parts and my leftover batten strips/molding in a spare bedroom. Now my brother went through another dealership, and they left their place a mess, handprints on the walls, plastic everywhere, you name it. My SIL is an obsessive complusive clean freak and my brother thought he was going to have to take her out for a while there. :D

Common sense tells you cleaning after setup would reflect well upon the dealership. Sadly that is not the case.
