SmartPanel
SmartPanel
I am looking at purchasing a palm harbor home. I has read that PH has soem of the best quality homes. I was very surprised to find that the salemen says that they no longer cover their homes with HardiPanel, even as an option. They said that they were having a problem with moisture getting behind the panels and causing mold growth. Does anyone have any knowledge of this? what do you know about SmartPanel. I have seen an awful lot of masonite swollen and decomposing of the years due to moisture and the thought of having this on my home scares me. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
Re: SmartPanel
Chris,
I am buying a 76H2 (fullest house), I did alot of research, and PH was the best choice for me. The construction on mine are: 2x4 studs (ext&int), full OSB wrap,
3/4" plywood flooring, 2x8 rafters,2x8 floor joist,1/2" sheetrock throughout.
I'm not sure on the "Hardi-Panel", mines vinyl.
Please feel free to post any more questions/concerns you may have......also you can post this question at my other haunt mobilehomerepair.com, theyve been extremly helpful to me there,a VERY active board, Im sure someone there might know more about HardiPanel, and SmartPanel than I do. Which state are you putting the home in?
Keep in touch.

Are you satisfied with your SmartPanel?
The house will be installed in North Texas. I am sorry about the typos. I typed the letter in a real hurry, and didn't read it until later. We really aren't that uneducated here in Texas. Oh well,,,, I am still looking for more info about the SmartPanel system and how people have been satisfied with it.
Re: Are you satisfied with your SmartPanel?
This is Louisiana-Pacific's new version of Inner-Seal... the one with all the lawsuits. I would imagine that it is much improved. I had Inner-Seal lap siding on my previous house. When it got wet, it split and swelled. I found that if I primed and painted the heck out of it, it would last.
I personally would go with Hardi-Plank, but that's just me. And I live in the Pacific Northwest, on the rainy side of the mountains.

I am looking to buy a new Skyline this year and it comes with Hardipanel cement siding. Is this the same stuff that is supposed to be bad. J
