door leak

Post by gerri moniz » Mon Jan 02, 2006 10:10 pm

I have a 14x80 Fleetwood home-1998. The jamb between both the front and back door gets wet and mouldy at the bottom, on the hinge side. It's the wall between the screen door and the hoise door. i can't see any leaks and i tried calking around the outside of the frame. I don't have any gutters on the house and was wondering if that would help solve the problem. The screen door is not exactly flush around the frame, and one person told me that if was to replace the door the whole unit would have to be replaced with both doors in a prehung unit. I thought that i could just replace the screen doors. Any help would be appreciated.

If the outside storm door is screwed to the house through a flange, remove a couple of the screws and look to see if there is caulking or sealant behind the flange, where the screws get installed.
Sealant is required at this location. Sounds like your door was once replaced or serviced and they didn;t provide the sealant as needed.

Yes , I do see screws along the outside(quite a few) so I will try to put sealant there. My home was bought brand new sothe door has never been serviced or replaced, that's why this has me puzzled. thanks for your help.
