Im buying a lot model doublewide. When I looked over the sales write up it has dealer prep listed for 13,500.It just didnt sit right with me because the salesperson couldnt tell me what it was for.Anyone know what dealer prep is or are they trying to scam me.

Shane,
It is important for you to understand exactly what this charge consists of. I would guess that at least some of it is the cost of taking the home apart, getting it ready to travel and re-installing the wheels and tongues. We generally wouldn't charge that much, but I really don't know the situation.
Be sure to get a break-down of this cost, once you know what it includes you can see if you're getting "scammed".
PS: Lot models are usually discounted, was yours?

It was discounted a little (3000) off the original price of 79000 .They are also throwing in the furniture in it (about 16 pieces ) and a washer and dryer which wasnt originally in it.Its an entertainer from fleetwood 2005.Everything in it is in brand new condition also does that sound like a good deal.Just wondering because this is our first purchase and my wife and I dont want to get ripped off. Thanks for replying Gil.

Shane, back up and regroup. If you haven't read some of the books available on this site, I would highly recommend you do so before entering into any contract. No, I'm not in the MF home business, but have been considering purchasing one for the last couple of years. Know exactly what you are getting into before signing a contract, and the books available her will help make you a very informed buyer. Wishing you the best.

76000 plus 13500 sounds like 91500 to me...Much too high for this model...The sales person should be able to exactly itemize everything "dealer prep" includes..if it is not clearly itemized..how do you know if you got it....All lot models should have new trim kits...and new siding on the ends...used siding and trim looks rough...Visit the book store here..shop other Fleetwood dealers..this floor plan is available from many manufacturers...Palm Harbor calls it the Fun House...

Good Luck..

Come back and ask away..

Home buyers MUST take responsibility for their home installation. If you want to enjoy your home for years to come the site prep and installation must be handled properly. Even if you're not planning on doing the work yourself, it is critical that home buyers understand the entire process.

The most effective way I have found to learn about the step by step process involved in properly installing a manufactured home is a great five-part video series with George Porter, the industry's most respected installation specialist. Mr. Porter leads you through a two hour viewing experience that will prepare you for the numerous operations and complexities involved in the installation of the modern manufactured home.

If your reading this and you are about to purchase a manufactured home Don't assume that the retailer or the installer are watching out for your best interests. take this crash study course now Click Here for More Details This will give you an edge when choosing sub-contractors and help you make sure the site preparation and installation is done right and to your expectation.

It sounds like they are charging you for the furniture etc. Get those charges itemized!

It sounded alot like they are trying to charge me for the furniture also.If you consider the 3000 they discounted off and 500 for the washer and dryer the are "throwing in".Then assume ( i dont know any thing about furniture prices) 10000 for the furniture you arrive at 13500 dollars.Thats really low if thats what it is.I will definitly get all charges itemized before I proceed. Thanks for helping out guys and I will check out the books. Thanks again.

this is a way to scam people, the dealer has set a low price to the home so people think they are geting a bargain this is comonly known as a bump, meaning that the low price is to atract the buyer and at the closing some silver thong salesman is going to tell you that this a charge that is common and it is to pay for various taxes and set up fees.
