Actually, the opposite is true. 5/8 is stronger than 1/2. Ceiling sag comes from the weight of blown in insulation (assuming the attic is nice and dry). The primary reason why some manufacturers use 5/8 is to stop ceiling sag when they use blown in insulation. Cellulose is lighter than mineral wool, so it isn't much of a problem anymore because most manufacturers use cellulose. When trusses are on 24" centers, R-30 is regarded as the most mineral wool you can use without ceiling sag.

Did you ever decide on a brand of mobile home? We live in Oklahoma also and are debating between a Karston and a Solitaire.

I'm looking for opinions on the Redman brand manufactured in Arizona. They are offering a 6:12 pitch roofline, shipped to California, which is attractive at the street. But I don't know how the quality compares to Fuqua, Silvercrest or Palm Harbor. Anyone out there live in one of these homes?

Do not drive down Santa Rosa Ave for homes.... In Santa Rosa, Car Salesmen,
yep, much worse....they basically scared us out of buying a modular when we went to the people they sold their homes to. Backbiters and illusionists. Sorry I do not care what they are selling... they got not only their hand in the pie, but also their feet as well. I am not here to complain, just let the buyer beware,,,,they were all doing it. good luck

I have purchased two Solitaire MH and have been very happy with both. The structure was very sound but not a lot of bells and whistles. However I would avoid the Tulsa office the service was very poor!

Rich: I have been trying to buy a home from "Custom Homes" since March. What should be straight forward and simple has become a nightmare. Doing things right the first time isn't that hard. Now I want my money back and am looking for a dealer that knows their product.

Hello there:

Just a question. Have you consiedered Patriot Homes? They have a great website and do offer a wide selection of floorplans and plywood floors are an option. If you are interested please visit thier website, I believe they have an exclusive dealership in Las Cruces, NM.

Before you make your decision, try the Patriot Homes website. They have a great selection of floorplans. Pricing and structural integrity seem to be high on thier list of priorities. They have a dealer in Las Cruces, NM who ships into Arizona.

Karina,
Palm Harbor is absolutely the best brand on the market!! Good luck in your up and coming purchase. Look for the Palm Harbor store nearest you and they will explain why they are the best...
