underbelly

Post by Judy Still » Tue Jul 19, 2005 8:25 am

I had the underbelly replaced two years ago. I now am planning to move my mobile home about 250 miles away and the mover tells me that my underbelly was not done correctly and has quoted me a price of $ 2, 015. to re-do the underbelly. Mobile is 14x80.
Does this sound correct? I am a elderly woman living alone and I think that I sometimes get ripped off.
Thanks !

It depends on exactly what is going to be done? Are we talking about patching a few torn spots or replacing all of the insulation and belly board? or something in-between?

He says that he needs to put the underbelly black material over what was done and add wood anchors in place of the tape that is there. The insulation material is all new but the previous guy put panels up over the insulation and taped them. I got a price( from a supplier) of $185.00 for a 16x80 roll of the black underbelly materials, so $2,015.00 seems really high.

Thanks!

Sounds high enough to cause a nose bleed!... if the paneling is taped to the bottom it probably needs to be stapled or nailed. The belly plastic is generally glued in place with a spray adhesive or stapled using strips of panel.

I cant tell you what the right price would be because that is different in every market. I would get prices from more than one contractor. Perhaps 4 or 5 to see where the market is. Ask your neighbors who has treated them right on repairs in the past. Find a satisfied customer. The are the best promotion for an honest contractor.

Thanks! You say nose bleed but I almost had a stroke. I knew that this was too high but even though Topeka is a large city he is the only person listed in the directory that works on mobile homes. There is no competition available and he knows this, so we are forced to pay his high prices
