Karsten appliance package

Post by donna » Wed Jun 22, 2005 10:33 am

In buying my new Karsten home I was sold on their "Dream Kitchen" package
which I was told was top of the line appliances. Problems with the dishwasher
from the beginning brought the GE repair man. He said I was fleeced, that
my micro, range and dishwasher were "bottom of the line" cheapest made
by GE. I was charged $2190 for what the GE man said could have been
purchased retail for $1250. I have written to Karsten and received no reply.
I was ripped off, do I have any recourse?

Your appliance upgrade probably included a refer as well...most of the money will be for it...Call GE and tell them what the repairman said...they will not be pleased...Before you blame Karston...check the prices your self....Go to GE's web site they have prices posted there.for every model they offer..

Thanks for info, Murray.

The package DID NOT include refrigerator, I purchased that
separately. I did check on the GE websie also, and what
I was told by repairman seems to be true. I will, however,
give GE a call.

I too do not see the advantage of the "dream" package the manufactures offer. They want $2300 for stainless steel but I still think it's high. I am going with the standard stuff then trading it with a appliance store here for what I want. It works out good.

If the information they provided in writing states it is the top of the line than you have an issue but if it states that it is a upgraded appliance package than as long as it is one level up from their base contractor model, I can't see where there is an issue. Unless you got a convection ovean and microwave that price seems very high. Hindsight is always 2020 but that is another reason to get everything in writing and check it out. Karsten is a good home and I would bring this up to the company and see if there is an acceptable resolution but again it is what is in writing that counts.

Actually my price was off. They want$2700 for the stainless upgrade. And yes, it's GE's bottom stainless stuff.

Dear member,

I am in the process of my real estate license and when you purchased your
mobile home it should of indicated on the purchase agreement
that seller would provide some sort of protection warranty for the the 1st year.

It should of been stipulated or even added as an addendum. I don't know
if you purchased your home by " seller by owner" I would like to know?

I will be placing a mobile home for sale by owner and am learning from
all the stories I hear. I hope that you were able to get some sort
of reimbursement. Or even small claims court would of helped.

Lorraine
