SHOWER LEAK
SHOWER LEAK
MY DOUBLE WIDE IS NOW 3 YEARS OLD, AND I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT HEARING WATER DRIPPING WHEN WE USED OUR SHOWER. AFTER WE FOUND OUT THAT THE BELLY OF OUR HOME WAS FULL OF WATER IN ONE SPOT, WE CALLED IN A REPAIR MAN. HE TOOK THE PANELING OFF THE WALL AND SAID THE PIPE THAT CONNECTS TO THE SHOWER THAT GOES THRU THE WALL WAS NEVER CONNECTED PROPERLY, HE TURNED IT 3 TIMES TO TIGHTED IT UP. EVIDENTALLY IT FINALLY WORKED IT WAY LOOSE., WE HAD THE DUCT WORK CLEANED AND THE CROSS OVER RUNS RIGHT CLOSE TO THE SHOWER, IS THE MANUFACTURER RESPONSIBLE SINCE IT WAS A FACTORY MISTAKE?
Re: SHOWER LEAK
YES. Manufacturers are responsible!
If you are located in a state that has a State Administrative Agency, call them if the manufacturer refuses to take care of the problem.
If you are getting no help at all from the manufacturer, call HUD @ 202-708-6423.

Re: SHOWER LEAK
Ken, sorry to keep replying. Ask your manufacturer this: How long should a water line last? I have a 25 year old home and mine never leaked.
If you have a state agency, I'm sure they will do everything in their power to assist you. There are some good ones out there, especially in the Northeast and Southeast.
You will have better luck if your manufacturer is located in the state where you are located.
Wait to call HUD until your state agency (if you have one) responds.
You can locate them in the manuals from the manufacturer.

Re: SHOWER LEAK
Nick you're right!
The manufacturer is responsible. I also agree if the homeowner has a state agency, they tend to do more than HUD.
If you do have a state agency, give em a try.......
If not contact HUD.

Re: SHOWER LEAK
After three years it will probably be difficult to get the builder to take responsability for the problem, unless your home is still under the original warranty. Do you have the original warranty papers? What was the length of the warranty?
Re: SHOWER LEAK
WE LIVE IN PA. THIS HOME IS 3 YEARS OLD NOW, AND IT HAD A 1 YEAR WARRANTY. WHAT I FORGOT TO MENTION WAS WE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT HEARING A DRIP EVERY TIME THE SHOWER IS USED.
WHEN NEW CARPETING WAS INSTALLED THE MAN NOTICED THE WALL WAS DAMP. I SHOWED THE MANUF. AND THEY LIKE EVERY OTHER TIME IGNORE YOU. MY QUESTION WAS IF THE WARRANTY IS UP BUT IT WAS A LONG TIME COMPLAINT WHILE THE WARRANTY WAS IN EFFECT, AND WE JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PROBLEM INSIDE THE WALL, IS THAT MANUF. PROBLEM? IS HUD THE SAME AS A STATE AGENCY?

Re: SHOWER LEAK
INSIDE THE WALL, THE PIPE WAS NOT CONNECTED TO THE SHOWER THAT GOES INTO THE SHOWER STALL. THIS IS KEN'S WIFE. HE IS OUT OF TOWN. WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS 3 YEARS AGO, THAT IS HOW OLD THE HOME IS. IT WASN'T UNTIL THE MANUF. HAD A CONTRACTOR COME IN TO CLEAN THE DUCT WORK, THAT WE NOTICED THE BELLY OF THE HOME WAS FULL OF WATER AT THAT LOCATION.
MAYBE HE CAUSED IT TO WORK LOOSER WHEN HE CLEANED THE DUCT WORK, BECAUSE THE CROSS OVER RUNS NEXT TO WHERE THE SHOWER IS.
IS HUD AND THE STATE AGENCY THE SAME?
HOPE I DIDN'T CONFUSE YOU MORE...

Re: SHOWER LEAK
KEN, if there is a water line leak in the home, the manufacturer is responsbile, forget about your warranty. I heard of the state agency in PA, and those guys are "hard core" and know their stuff, you're lucky! My state agency in IN does nothing!
Your state agency does much more than HUD, did you contact them? If so they will do everything that is required. I know; my home was built in PA and I live in IN. I sent a complaint to my state, they did nothing, but I also copied the state of PA and they did. They even copied me on their response.
What's wrong with the duct work that you had it cleaned?
At least your state responds.
