air qualilty in manufactured homes

Post by Andrea Prewitt » Sun Apr 17, 2005 8:59 pm

I bought a new Fairmont manufactured home. I was told all I had to do was air it out and the air in it would be fine. To make a long story short this home has not been lived in for over a year because we get a lump in our throat and a metillic taste in our mouth. My lungs started bleeding. How can I make this home safe for us? There was a cracked furnace in it. We got that fixed but still the air qualtiy is bad. Everyone that goes into the home comes out saying there is a problem in there. Is there anyway I can fix this home. I had air specialists test home but it would cost thousands of dollars to do all the testing. It is still under warrenty but they have done nothing for us so far. Thanks

You probably have press board floors...and a sensitivity to formaldehyde... formaldehyde is the primary ingredient in the glue in pressboard...another good reason not to have press board floors...Have you had allergy tests...There are medications to help with allergy symptoms...Air it out some more..

Murray, I bought this home for mother and I. We are both on breathing machines. I told the salesman that I could not buy this home because of the danger sign on the cupboards. He said all i had to do is air it out for a few weeks. He kept reassuring me that things would be all right. I have aired this home out for almost 1 1/2 years. I spent 3000 on testing the air. Shows no problems. Everyone that walks in there has a problem. IS there anyway I can fix this problem? Like sealing with pro-block from Sherwin-Williams? This home has been a hugh problem. Also had as cracked furnace in it. Mother ended up in the hospital. WIndows do not fit right. Real lemon. Any suggestions will help. Thanks, Andrea

Those signs are there to inform folks with problems like you..You instincts seem to have been correct..but you listened to s strsaight commissioned sales person..You might want to consult an attorney...Have you talked to the factory service department..??..Post this question into the servcice section of these forums..There are expereienced repair persons posting there..they migh have some idea from experience...Those with health problems should consult with ntheir doctors for advice instead of commissioned salespersons..Sorry..

I'm an attorney in Alabama. Have handled a great deal of manufactured housing cases and been in contact with other attorneys across the country. I can probably help you find an attorney in your area. Just let me know.
