Solitaire homes going bankrupt??

Post by Jumper » Tue Jan 28, 2003 5:57 pm

My wife and I are interested in buying a Solitaire home (model 973). Another MH dealer just told us, Solitaire is bankrupting one of their plants. Does someone know if this is true? It doesn't make sense that they would bankrupt just one of their plants. I can see closing the plant to save on overhead cost, but not bankrupting.

Also, can anyone tell us if they've heard anything negative about Solitaire? We've done a lot of shopping around and looked at alot of different floor models. Even considered going with a custom built MH.

Any info is appreciated!
Thanks

Terry

Jumper,

Hello, In the manufacturing industry their are alot of companies going out at this time. Solitaire is a family owned company and is a debt free company. They have been in the manufacturing housing business since the early 1950's. They have 2 plants in Oklahoma, one in Texas, Bigsprings, and one in New Mexico, Deming. At every plant they build 4 different floor plans only and ships them to their retailers. This keeps all the factory going at this time. The Deming, N.M. plant only builds their 28x70 and over homes and the smaller one come out of Texas and Oklahoma plants. At this time the company is doing just fine as I heard.

Have heard no such thing...Could very well be closing a plant...Nearly 50% of the plants of the big 3 have been closed in the last 2 years...My guess this salesperson was selling a competing product....Hope it was not Oakwood..

Lemme try this again :-) I appreciate the information. Like I said, it didn't make sense to me that the company would go bankrupt on just one plant. I can understand closing the plant though.

Supposedly, the house we chose will be coming out of the Madill Oklahoma Plant (we live outside Oklahoma City) but won't be back into production till about April unless they get a large order for that style home.

Thanks again guys!!

What model home by Solitaire are you getting?

Now this is different...Many of the most efficient companies (this one looks like one of them)...build in production runs...

They waiit until they have X? orders for a particular floorplan and then build them all at once..This allows for more plant effiency and substancially better quality contol...

Unfortunately if the floor plan you chose is not the most popular...You might have to wait a while until there are enough orders to build a run...Are there other floorplans that might interest you?...

Good Luck

Nathan,
My wife and I are looking at the 973 model. I believe it's a little over 2100 sqft, 3bd/2.5bath, office, with a "Great room".
