Four Seasons Question

Post by tabitha » Wed Mar 23, 2005 2:41 pm

I have called to different dealers with my list of things I want in a particular home. I figured they had their own base price for the home but each would have the same price list of items for upgrades and such. I thought the dealers would have the same list form the manufacture and those prices where set. What I am finding out is much different. For example one dealer quoted me a $1200.00 for a fire place and the other dealer quoted me $995.00 for the fireplace. Same thing for the ceramic back splash one was $250.00 and the other was $195.00. These two dealers about 1 hour and 20 minutes from each other. Is that normal?

Dealers make money on options. What they want to mark them up is usually their call so naturally they go for whatever they think they can get.

Yes, when I was shopping dealers one of the things that made me decide between two dealers of the same brand of home was that the second dealer told me they didn't mark up there options. The first dealer would always say "we have to call the factory" when we asked them how much an option cost. Translation: we have to take this number and multiply it by 150%. The second dealer would simply open the book and tell us. The second dealer told us they preferred to deal in volume of sales rather than high markups. When I asked them to do a comparison quote for the same home and options, they got our business.
