serial number

Post by Roberto Escalante » Wed Feb 09, 2005 8:08 pm

Dear Expert :

I am trying to refinance my manufactured home but I have a problem because I can't find the serial number for my house. The information I have of my house is that it was built in 1980, manufacturer PIX and serial number PIX.
It has stucco so I looked on every lefthand side bottom corner by scrapping out the stucco about 1sq foot, but I couldn't find anything. Can you help me to find it.
I really apreciate it.
Yours Truly Roberto Escalante

Our moderator just answered this one last week. Here is a reprint.

If the home was built after 1976, the serial number is on the backing
plate. This is the piece of steel that runs across the front of the home,
and to which the hitch would be attached. The code is clear on this issue.
The number must be 3/8" in height, and be located on the foremost
crossmember, numbers must not be stamped into hitches or draw members. They cover with rust, will be behind skirting, and will be difficult to find, but
they are there.

Thank you for your response.
My home does not have a steel trust.
Could it be some where else? or maybe it was not built after 1976.

I checked my papers and I found the year that was built
1955.
Can you tell me where could the serial number be?
Thank you.

ALL manufactured homes have steel frames. Those built in 1955 will have the serial number stamped on the hitch end of the home as shown in the photo above.

With a 1955, it is probably stamped on the hitch rather than the crossmember.
it will probably be very difficult to find, because the hitch has probably been painted many times or has rusted through.
It would be stamped on the top of the hitch, probably close to the coupler.

My house is sitting on a permanent foundation, concrete block of a about 8" by 24" all around the house on the top of the concrete has 2, 2x4's on top of each other . It has a crawling space under the house in which I went under to look for the steel trust but all I saw was 2x6's all accross the house.
Could it be in another place?

It sounds like you have a Miami, Fl house!! God only knows what they have done with that house. A lot of times they will cement stuccco the entire house.
They slowly try to convert a trailer into a CBS block house. I have seen them cut frames down their and replace them with wood beams. I have also seen them put cement on the floors and time the entire house.
