Serial Number on 1976 Modular Home

Post by Chuck V » Thu Jan 27, 2005 6:38 pm

Some added info.....I checked the house over as best I could today. The only label to be found inside the house is in a front closet. It is a State of Ohio inspectors certification, with date inspected and stating that it meets Ohio's Board of Building Standards for modular construction. No house serial numbers.

I cannot find any numbers anywhere under the house. I see the back of the front crossmembers from underneath, and the front of them face a row of concrete block. No chance am I going to be able to see the front of them.

My mother is checking with the bank that held the mortgage to see if they have any numbers on the original paperwork. I also sent an email to Marlette Schult to see if they can help. Other than that, not sure how we could get the serial numbers.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Perhaps since its an on frame modular the home inspector thinks its a HUD and thats why he want numbers. As some else said get them to get a inspector whos knows the difference. You can't give him what doesn't exist.

There is one other possibility. If a building permit was required for inital construction, there is a slight chance the local building department would have it on file.

Find the previous insurance company, if the numbers were there, they would have required them to insure it. You'll be counting on those being correct numbers, but if that's all you have...

There might be a roof load certificate located in the furnace closet with the serial number.
By the way this should be a 5 digit number that starts with a 6.
Also, the original purchase agreement should have the serial number.

Hi,

We're in the same boat, trying to identify our 1974 Marlette. How were you able to contact Marlette? I have gone to the website and tried emailing several times, only to get an error message each time.

Any contact information you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

We have had an interesting development. The appraiser completed his appraisal and valued the house, addition, and land (we live in a resort town) at $144,000. Not sure if I should be relieved because now the refinancing can go forward or concerned because this seems high......

Hi,
I am also searching for a serial number for a 1981 Atlantic. The home has been moved on to a foundation, all heating, cooling, plumbing and electric have been redone as well as the inside re-sheetrocked. Am trying to get a loan but they won't lend on it without a HUD number. I have the Iowa VIN number and the Iowa Title number but no serial number. HELP!! Thanks.
