Manufactured home Vin numbers
Manufactured home Vin numbers
I purchased land with a mobile home on it, I have a title for the home listing the make as MODU- year as 77 - Vin as BF370S0178. Does anyone know of a way to find out the manufactor of this home? Thanks Thanks!!!
Re: Manufactured home Vin numbers
The data plate installed inside the home will give you that information. I would suspect it was made by Modular Structures, a manufactured home builder.
Re: Manufactured home Vin numbers
We purchased a mobile home in a state where titles for mobile homes are not required. In order to GET a title we have to have a vin or some sort of identification number. We've searched all over and can't find one, and I cannot find the manufacturer to call them and ask. It is a Four Seasons mobile home with extensive remodeling and additions.

Different manufacturers across the country stamp the VIN numbers in different places on the frame. If your really stuck I recommend you visit a local dealership that sells only used homes. New home dealers handle one or 2 Brands and only know the characteristics of those brands. The guys who are buying and re-selling used homes will be familiar with most of the make models and brands that are in circulation in your area. They will probably also have plenty of experience finding numbers and data plates on older homes.
Re: Manufactured home Vin numbers
If the home was built after 1976, the serial number is on the backing plate. This is the piece of steel that runs across the front of the home, and to which the hitch would be attached. The code is clear on this issue. The number must be 3/8" in height, and be located on the foremost crossmember, numbers must not be stamped into hitches or draw members. They cover with rust, will be behind skirting, and will be difficult to find, but they are there.
