we are trying t choose between a ritz-craft modular and a marlett shult...would anyone care to comment on these mfgs?
Re: comparisons
Schult is owned by Oakwood Homes Corporation...The filed chapter 11 bankruptcy Friday....They do say they will make it through, and the Schult plants are doing ok....But this type of bankruptcy often leads to the end...If it does, Schult will probably continue in operation under different owners...but would legally not be responsible for warranty...
Also if something bad happens in the middle of your order...you could be sunk..
If you really want the product you should be sure you have a good 2/10 warranty with an insurance company...This would kick in even if they go all the way out....As a matter of fact...If I were any Oakwood brand..I would be giving them with every home at no charge...
As far as quality comparisons are concerned...These homes are out of my direct market area..and I am not familier with either...

J. Deane:
I know and respect both the Ritz-Craft and the Schult as far as product is concerned. However, I'm biased in favor of the Ritz-Craft for a couple of reasons. (1) My company sells them and we are very familiar with the quality of the product. (2) We have seen the Ritz-Craft organization make every effort to be customer friendly.
Additionally, Murray raises an excellent point concerning the financial status of Schult.
Best wishes with your selection.

Ritz-Craft, comments
I have been in a Ritz-Craft for almost 3 months - during the winter, with lots of snow and sometimes high winds. I can honestly say we are very please with this house. With the OSB wrap and also a vapor barrier over the wrap, we barely hear the wind at all. We have drywall - and the only thing we are getting is a a few hairline cracks above the doors. We are told this happens as the house settles. So, we will wait for a few months before we fix these hairline cracks and paint. Bottom line - this is a nice house and happy with the quality. We have had many compliments on our home.
