About the Solitaire's talked about below....sm

that is one brand I have not heard of on these forums. Of course, it may not be available in my area and I am going to try an internet search, but if I don't find anything....Is Solitaire the name I should look under or is it just a line under a manufacturer? Are they available in Louisiana or nearby? The person below who had one said that Palm Harbor could not match all the upgrades she/he had in their Solitaire, so I'd like to check them out. Thanks.

I used to sell Palm Harbors and what you heard about Solitaire is true. They do offer much more as far as standard items that other people are upgrades. They are well worth the money.

since you used to sell PH....are they as well-constructed as they (PH) say they are? I've been cruising their web site and they sure look good. And the Energy Star ones, with the 6" walls, seem to be the way to go.

I found in my web search that Solitaire's are not sold in my neck of the woods, or I would consider them. Would you consider PH an acceptable alternative, or are they as overpriced as some have said? I am looking (IF I decide to go MH) for the best-built one I can find that is available in my area.

Something funny I noticed on the PH site...if the exterior is unusual or has anything a little "extra", it is only available in the northwest or something. If it's your regular old ugly, unimaginative, double-wide facade, you can bet it will be available in the South. Why is that? Do they think we in the South don't have good taste or something? *sigh*

I ordered my PH from the Siler City NC plant, I ordered the 76H2 model, after several months of looking at various manufacturers, and researching the various construction methods (matierials used), I decided on PH, an extremly well built home, in my opinion, not sure on the cost of a PH where you are, but here in NC this model base price was 68K with 2x4 on 16" centers, plywood floor, insulation upgrades,thermo-pane windows,full OSB wrap, and 1/2 sheetrock throughout, not really a ton of options as standard on a PH (except for the applaince package).....but its a very well built home, with great after the sale service, and a 5 year warrenty...anyway, good luck, and keep us posted.

PH builds many different products and they are all different...For some reason GA built seem to be the least well built for them...

Have you checked out Horton Homes at www.HortonIndustries.com ...All of their product are very well built with options from the most basic to the most lush...They also have an Energy Star approved option..

if I've looked at Horton Homes yet, but I will go to the link and see. Seems like I have and they are not available in my region, but hey, I've looked at so many, who can remember?

I notice the same thing. Also MH in California are much more stylist and well designed. That makes me mad.

I think Horton is a pretty good choice. I am considering a PH but will probably go back to Horton. I have one now and it's been pretty trouble free. They have improved them since I bought mine in 91. If you buy from the factory dealers right there by the factory in Ga. it will save you money too.
