Sunshine Homes

Has anyone out there had any experiences with Sunshine Homes or have owned one? If so, how did you like the home? Sunshine touts that it uses yellow pine which foot for foot is supposed to be stronger and heavier than spruce or fir used by other manufacturers. Is there any validity to this claim?

On another subject......what makes a "high end home" and high end home? Is it construction techniques or just the interior touches?

Pine,or spruce a 2 by 4 is a 2 by 4.MH must use a better grade of lumber then stick builts so it doesn't really matter what kind of tree it came from.
A high end home is usually condisdered one that has superior building materials and techniques.Eye candy is what you see and are sold on by dealers but what you want is a better framed home and building codes that match stick builts.

Typically, southern yellow pine has a higher fiber bend rating then Spruce/Pine/Fir.
Most manufacturers use SYP for their floor joist. SO you are being BS'ed.
BUT, I know Sunshine and they do build a pretty good home.
As for high end, that is all sales talk. there is no legal definition of high end. the term is meaningless.
The comment above that MH use better lumber then stick built or any other construction, is not accurate. MH lumber is equal to other construction lumber, not superior.

HUD MF homes must use a grade of lumber that is dryer then conventional which in almost all cases of stick built is # 2 pine, spruce fir or the equivalent. Not gonna look it up for you but its in their code.I don't mean to say its superior but its defiently a better grade on the lumber scale.High end in MH homes has always meant built closer to stick built codes, you do sell these things ,right?

It is not true that most manufacturers use syp for floor joists. Many do not. Many use syp only where it is necessary to achieve the desired span. Some, such as most of the champion divisons, only use syp in trusses. Some lower priced homes will use syp because they are putting the floor joists on 24" centers.
