I would like some feedback on a brand of homes.... MHE Manufactured Housing Enterprises, INC.
I am a Hart dealer in IL.- we are looking at picking up another brand of homes to carry. I have been to the plant of MHE- have seen several of their "displays" at the factory. I noticed a few things I would like/need to upgrade but they still seem like a nice home- they run about $9,000.00 cheaper than Hart. So that will put us more inline with the dealer down the road that carries Southern Energy Homes. MHE still looks tons better than SE Homes.
I would however like some feedback from you here.
I have read Randy's book & it says that they are more or less lower end. It also says thay have 2 x 4 exterior walls but really it is 2 x 6. The book seems to have some of the older standards not the newer. That's fine since I know the factories are always changing.
Any input would be great! Thanks for your help.
MHE homes ?? Anyone out there know these ?

MHE makes a super nice home for the money. We are developing a new community and recently ordered 3 of these homes. They are all 16 wides. They also have 9 ft. walls and 6 inch walls. They are a great home for the money. The trim work is also great compared to most manufactures. I would reccomend them.

You are correct that MHE has added standard features in the last couple years. They are moving towards being a value driven mid-range manufacturer. I am sure you already know that there are MANY reasons why Hart costs so much more. But if you are competeing with a Southern Energy dealer, you will still have a structurally superior, better built home with MHE. I know of a few retailers that have found MHE to be a good fit for their customers who can't afford a Hart house.

Thanks for the input !
I think they will be really good for us too. I am hoping that they give us the heads up on low/mid range buyers- most of our buyers come in looking for a Hart. That's great since I truly believe Hart is the best. It's the drive bys that I can't seem to get- they are looking for a lower end home.
Hart is indeed a great home- I would match them with anything. But some people only care how much & how big. It seems the they drift off when I try to explain that Hart is a great built house. they just want the lower price.
Thanks again-

I have seen the MHE homes do well, except when they have problems, the problems are really big problems! Plus they don't back up the dealers when those big problems come up.
They have a bad reputation in some places do to some of their past mistakes. for example they had a home that the roof blew off in PA. It was nasty!
As a dealer, I have enough trouble, I would stay clear.

Be very careful ! My floors were supposed to be 3/4 OSB, I got 5/8 Cresdek. My supply plumbing was supposed to be PEX, I got PVC. They told me house would be wrapped, it wasn't. I'm still haven't decided if I'll sue or not. Sales manager relies on "If you read the small print".

Sounds more like a dealer problem to me...These are MAJOR differences..do you have all of this in writing..or on a brosure..Sounds like the dealer bought the lowest end model instead of the upgrade...if there is one..
