Have Ser# need to know manufacturer

Post by Diana » Sat Mar 27, 2004 7:36 am

I am currently in the process of buying a repoed manufactured home. We cannot find the builders name anywhere. Is there a way to find this out online if we have the serial number? Also, is there a way to see if there has been any insurance claim from water damage on it or dangerous mold? I see a water line approx. 1 to 2 inches high throughout the house and the seller is wanting me to sign a Real Estate Disclosure Addendum and Release, acknowledging there may be mold, due to possible water damage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I am not sure about the sn number...you might post it here and someone might recognize it...or you might e-mail it to all manufacturers and ask them if it came from them,...I would think the seller (the bank that repossessed the home) would have all info in its files...There should be a data plate in the home...8x11 inch paper posted on a wall somewhere...closet..cabinet back..It will list the manufacturer and other info...Also the local tax records often have the manufacturers name and size...

The waterline you mention is most likely NOT from a flooded home...Some folks do not read the directions when cleaning carpet and over flood the carpet with the "steam" cleaners that are rented...This allows the moisture to wick up into the sheetrock..When it dries it stains the wall covering..Paint or trim will cover this fine..

The form the real estate person is asking you sign is a standard form that ALL real estate folks ask buyers to sign on ALL used homes...manufactured or otherwise..

If you are afraid of mold...have a mold inspection done by a pro..

If the serial number is complete, it will have a manufacturer's abbreviation, as well as an abbreviation for the state in which it was built.

If you have the serial number, and the metal label is still on the home, you can contact an agency called IBTS, they can tell you the manufacturer, dealer and date the home was built. call them at
