Roof vents in the front of a house

Post by hvacak472003 » Mon Jan 19, 2004 5:08 pm

Looking at buying a new skyline i really like the house except for one thing. The furnace and bathroom vents all come out the roof on the front side of the house.Couldnt they just 90 over above the ceiling and go out the roof on the back side of the house. If so do you think that is a change skyline will make for me.The house will be built in the pennsylvania plant.I will be paying 75,000 for the house and think that would be an easy change considering the amount the house will cost. The ceilings are 8 foot flat ceilings. Thanks in advance

No..they will not be able to make this change..all you can do is change floorplans where all of this is on the backside...

This is a pretty minor glich...Go order your house..

We are considering skyline as well. Do you mind if i ask how many square feet you are getting? Also do you have a lot of upgrades as far as structural quality -such as OSB flooring. , 2x6 exterior studs, good insulation, Things like that. Thanks for any help.

The house will have 2x6 exterior walls with osb wood on the outside . 5/12 roof pitch r-19 insulation in the walls and floor r-30 in the ceiling. Sheetrock throughout with all wood mouldings. Ceramic counter tops with all appliances upgraded.Whirlpool tub in master bath and will be 2001 square foot.Get the 8 foot flat ceilings this upgrade really makes the house seem like a stick built house. The houses built in Pennsylvania cannot be orderd with plywood floors you can only get novadeck and the floor joist can only be 2x6 16 o.c.A risk that im just going to have to take. If I could afford a 2000 square foot stick built house i would get one but a stick built house this size in my area would be around $200,000 dollars on the lot I am buying.Where this house and the one acre lot comes to 130,000.But the roof vents coming out the front of the house is really a stupid way of doing things it would be so simple to just 90 over and go out on the backside of the house.I do heating and air for a living and all furnace vents we run no matter were the furnace is we just simply turn in the attic and go out on the back side of the house.Does anyone know a phone number to the skyline plant in Pennsylvania Im going to confront them on this and see why they are so stubborn on making such a simple change i mean do you wanna sell a house or what. This kinda stuff just really pisses me off.Any help with the phone number would be great. Thanks for all the help and advice

If the HUD code says that vents have to be run straight up from the stack or furnace then the manufacturer can't modify them to your likening. That probaly has something to do with it although I don't know for sure what the specific code is.HUD's codes are quite different then standard stick built state codes in many areas.
If I were you I would spend my time in trying to get plywood or OSB on the floors instead of Novadeck(aka particleboard)

call the dealership you are purchasing the home through. see if you can take a factory tour--that's where you can see how everything is put together and ask questions.

sounded like you are getting a good home until you mentioned the novadeck. I would not buy another home with novadeck. (unless you enjoy replacing the floors .) for the price you stated you should be getting OSB or T/G plywood.

Got news for you. HUD does not tell them where to run things. HUD only tells them that things must be done according to the manufacturer of the equipment being placed in A MH.
