I own a manufactured home on land we are leasing on the in-law's farm in Illinois (south of Chicago). It is an area that is "Union Stick Built" so we went against the grain on getting an mh (but $75k for 4bd 3 bath +buku options is unheard of in that area). I have appealed our property tax last year as they are taxing us as residential, although our dealer told us it would be a Privilege tax (15 cents per sq ft). At the assessor board hearing the township assessor showed me that many other mh homes in the area are taxed as residential because they are on private land. I was told by the dealer if it is on blocks and a concrete slab, with a vinyl siding enclosure, that that is a "temporary foundation" and it should be taxed as a mh. I expect to find out this spring if they will change it but I would like to know if anyone knows the law on this.
btw this discussion forum is great and is really giving me tons of information!
Thanks.
Use / Privilege Tax
Re: Use / Privilege Tax
A Privilege tax makes sense to me...I have always said only the smartest among us have the privilege of owning a manufactured home..
Good Luck...actually I am glad there is a government taking the position that your house is just that...A house..
