Does ANYONE put C/A ducts in ceiling?

I can't seem to locate any manufacturer who will run the central air ductwork through the attic. Salespeople just keep telling me that they don't know of any manufacturer who does. I know WHY they all run it through the floor: it's much cheaper and easier to just run everything through the underneath. Both the hubby and I would really, really prefer to have those ducts in the ceiling. Besides it being more energy efficient, it's aesthetically pleasing. We're in Arizona. Anyone know of a manufacturer who might allow for such an upgrade?

I'm speculating here, but because most manufacturers have vaulted ceilings, there isn't enough room between the ceiling and the roof to run duct work, especially as you get closer to the outside walls. If you could see a cross-section of this area, you would see why. - Bill

I believe there may be more of this, as high, flat ceilings come in vogue. I am surprised you can't find SOMEONE in the South though, where AC is much more used than heat.

You can put overhead H\A ducts in as little as 6 inches,which is about what vaulted ceilings in M-Housing has between the ceiling and roof.Check around with MH builders other then the low end ones.I'm sure you will find the option available.

I believe this option is available with Indies Homes, but they are only in the SOUTH,
as in Alabama, Tenn, and Miss.

There may be others that will do it as an option, check around.

Cavco has some newer Manu. Homes with just what you asked for, we ended up buying one however with it on the floor as we could only get "into" that style, but we did see models with them in the ceiling.

My daughter and her husband bought a Fleetwood 3 months ago. It was a top-of the line model with many upgrades - and it has ceiling vents. It is so energy efficient that their electric actually went down for December - and they had massive Christmas lights on their house and yard. This is a Georgia manufacturer.

I have owned a Fleetwood 16x80 single since 1998 and have been really happy with it. It is my first "factory built home" (that's for Bill). I did a couple of upgrades that have really paid for themselves; ceiling vents and tongue and groove plywood floors. I have ripped out the P.O.S. carpet and replaced it with top of the line berber in the bedrooms and hardwood floating floor planking everwhere else. With plywood, you don't have to worry about the floor coming apart when you start to pull the thousands of staples the manufacturer uses to put the original wall to wall carpet down. As far as the ceiling vents, I can arrange my furniture anywhere in my house I want to (actually, where the wife wants it, I put it) and not have to worry about covering a vent. Best options out there for my money.

I live in the south and the Champion homes I have been looking at all have ceiling vents. I know this is an old thread, but thought I would answer anyway.

I just went to an Indies dealer in Texas a few days ago. I asked what the difference was between ceiling vents in the floor and in the ceiling. I was told that most manufactured homes don't have "attics". If there were a problem with the A/C and they needed to do some work, either the ceiling or the roof would have to be opened up to do the work. With the vents in the floor, all they have to do is crawl under the home. Does this make any sense? I hope it helps someone.
