Hardbord maintenence

We think we have deceided on Harboard instead of vinyl. We have heard Hardboard is fine as long as you do routine maintence. Our question, what is rountine maintenance???

We plan on calking all windows and doors after delivery, but what else do we need to watch for?

It has to stay painted,be installed so no moisture can get behind it and hopefully you do not live in a extremely wet climate.
