Hi
I am caught between a rock and a hard place! I recently moved into a new Manufactured home in Middleboro MA. I had a "Mannigton" hardwood floor installed and it's nice looking but it easily gets marked up
with dents and scratches. I have had hardwood floors in some of my other homes but not like this. When I bought a kitchen set, the retailer installed "teflon" tips on the ends of the chair legs and said he uses them on all of his sets and they should glide across the floors. They didn't!! When we sat on the chairs, the teflon tips dug into the new floor and left groves . My wife and I are not heavy( I weigh 180 and my wife 128 lbs) When I complained to the retailer what happened, he said Mannington floors are not real hardwood. They are not as good as other hardwoods. He takes no responsiblity for the teflon tip damage. The Mannington Floor rep says the retailer never should have used teflon on the chairs , he should have used felt protective tips. The Mannington floor I have is real hardwood but you do have to treat new hardwood very carefully.
Has anyone out there ever had new hardwoods scratch and dent easily and what do I do on my situation????
Hardwood floors
Re: Hardwood floors
It may be a wood floor but it sounds like its just a thin laminte woodlayer on a plywood backing.Thats the way cheaper 'wood'floors are made, their not to hearty.A real wood floor is 3/4 or more inch thick hardwood, tongue and groove milled, and solid hardwood. If damaged you just have it sanded down and refinished. There is no way to do that with your type of floor as theres not enough material to work with. Those shiny, prefinished easy to install wood floors you see in the home improvement stores may look nice but they won't last long.
Re: Hardwood floors
The Mannington "Jamestown" is Red Oak.
The hardwood is 0.375 inches cross grain, engineered visual:rotary cut. Wearlayer thickness mils :0 boardwidth
3 inches. It has a 10 year warranty.
Does this tell you anything????

Re: Hardwood floors
That sounds like a hardwood laminate. The hardwood is 0.375" thick(the very top layer)
Even with the warranty it would be hard to just replace the damaged sections. This type of floor is installed either as a floating floor or is glued down.10 years is a pretty generous warranty but I'm sure it is prorated and doesn't cover installion.

Re: Hardwood floors
When I bought the house, I wasn't asked what kind of Hardwood floor did I want, I was asked what color?
Now that I have this Mannington Floor and knowing what what happened to it, what is my next turn? The Mannington rep says the warranty does not cover scratches and dents. Am I stuck with this floor now??
