Minor cracking in

Post by Linda Oz » Sun Oct 19, 2003 1:10 pm

I purchase a 1 year old Skyline and recently noticed very minute cracks in the plaster in the corners of 2 walls. Is this normal or should the level be checked?

Thanks,
Linda

That ususally is a sign of slight settling of the home.If it doesn't get any worse then I wouldnt worry. If it keeps getting larger and spreads to other areas the house is sinking on its foundation which is not a good thing.
Just keep a eye on it for now.

Thanks Bill. I really appreciate your advice. It has not increased in size for 2 months and the home did withstand a 4.3 earthquake beautifully.

We have a 1 yr old 76 x 30 Skyline that has corner cracks on the south (side wall) of the house. The house is on a solid, mostly level (1 inch lower at the south end) concrete slab. The house itself is level having done this check myself, and all supports are firmly supporting the house. We first noticed the crack after setup was completed. The manufacturer came out this summer and patched it. By December it was back again. I contacted the manufacturer's repairman who said it was only settling. I also called the dealer who called the manufacturer and another owner from the office who both said it was settling. However, after a year, it seems like it is "settling" too much and too quickly. It has probably settled about 1/4 inch total so far. I noticed that the crack starts about half-way up the wall. I also noticed that the bathroom counter, also on that side wall, appears to be pulling away from the wall as the cauck is cracking. Can you help me determine if "the house is sinking on its foundation", if the wood is "drying out", or is it only settling?
