MOving DW From TX to CA

Post by David » Fri Aug 15, 2003 10:33 am

I need to know where or if anyone has an idea of total cost to tear down a 28x52 Skyline DW and transport it to SPRING VALLEY, CALIFORNIA from Austin TX ?

Can it be done for 7 to 8 grand?

I would assume different co. in CA would have to rebuild it?

Only a transporter can give you an accurate figure. There should be several listed in the phone book. There are also major interstate transporters, but I doubt 7 to 8 will do the job.

The figures I have heard in the past have been around $5,000 to teardown, transport, and set/level, but this was for a local move. Your trip is about 1300 miles times 2 sections. Add to this, getting the home trimmed out again, and repairing the damage from the move. Something else that needs to be considered, and may not apply to this scenario would be the requirements for, Wind Zone, Thermal Zone, and Snow Loads. I'm not sure how the Wind and Thermal zones are set in Texas, but they may not even allow for the home to be moved to an area closer to the coast.

You didn't mention if you were thinking of moving it to CA for your own use, or if it is a buyer from there showing some interest. If it is for you I would say to think long and hard about it, and do a lot of research before jumping in. If it is a buyer, let them be responsible for setting all this up (don't offer to pay the moving costs), and to get paid in full before the home moves so you are out of the picture if anything goes wrong. When we were driving a truck, we saw more than one Mobile Home wrecked in the ditch, and in the case of a used double wide, what do you do with the remaining half.

I live in Spring Valley in a new MH and I can give you some info from the data card on my home. Texas and Calfornia are in Wind Zone 1, roof is south 20 psf, and something call "U/O Value" is Zone 2. Appears that Texas is in Zone 1 but, not knowing what U/O value is, not sure if it makes a difference.

If you need any info at this location, let me know.

David,

Couple of questions......are you moving your manufactured home to property you have purchased in Spring Valley or are you planning on going into a park? If you are planning on going into a park, you need to check with the park manager to see if you can bring your home in. Most parks around here will not let anything other than new homes into the parks. We deal with a lot of the parks in Spring Valley and I am not aware of any parks that will let you bring in an older home. If you are placing the home on land, make sure you check with the County of San Diego for your permits. Let me know what you're looking to do.

Thanks,

Linda
