Tub life expectancy

Post by Vic Hogberg » Sun Jul 06, 2003 8:48 pm

Our modular home (purchased new in 1989) garden tub, cracked and had to be replaced in 2000. Now the other plastic tub has a "spongy" feel underfoot.

Is there some sort of support under the tub that has deteriorated and can be replaced or is it time for a new tub? It has had very little use.

Should I expect to replace tubs at 15 year intervals?

Most likely there is a syrofoam base under the tub...Over time these have a tendacy to compact....Being a big guy my self..i often wondered about this type of base...There is not muc you can do to repair....To do so you would have to take the tup out...the biggest part of the job..once out..you might as well do it right and replace it with another tub..

There are many different replacement tubs..each with different construction features...and price of course....If you plan on staying there for many years..buy a quality tub..
