Placing An Older Home

Dear Sir,

My sister and brother-in-law purchased a 1965 BelAir and placed it on their property in Oregon. They are now ready to buy a new home and want to give this home to my daughter and I. We would have to move it from Oregon to California and of course find a community for it. I have been told by one community that no one in California will take a home this old because it can not be licensed. Is this true? Can you give me an ideas or advice? We feel incredibly blessed to have been offered this gift but now are frustrated and confused.

Also, if this can be done, can you suggest some communities in Sacramento County and movers?

Thank you very much.

When a home was built prior to the enactment of the HUD code, it has to meet the requirements that were in effect prior to the HUD code. In California, these were quite stringent, and the home may well not pass those requirements. Don't pay alot of money to move the home, without knowing all the particulars. Go to the horse's mouth, and get the real info from the building department in the county where you wish to site the home.
