Double Wise Windows

Post by Chris » Thu Jun 05, 2003 3:50 pm

I own a double wide Redman built in 1993 and every window in the home has condensation between the panes. Do I need to have all the windows replaced, half the windows or can I take the glass out myself and clean them. If I have to have them replaced who do I see about them cause they aren't standard size windows. I live in Mi and I tried to look for a mobile home parts store and none exsist here. Thanks
Chris

You have a leak in the seal but I am surprised that all windows are this way. You can get just the glass replaced by any glass place. They will measure and fit to any window.

You are mentioning a common problem with thermo pane windows...All thermo pane windows wear out over time...

When new...thermo pane is 2 sheets of thin glass with argone gas in between...the argone gas does not transmit heat very well..hence thermo pane energy efficient windows....The gas is sealed in between...Over time these seals deteriorate and loose the seal..when it does the gas escapes and air goes in between the glasses...The moisture causes the condensation you mention..When you see this the windows no longer have any thermo properties...Most windows in new construction will last about 10 years...some less..some will last longer...

The only solution to your problem is to replace all the windows..replacing the glass will not replace the seal and the condensation will continue...When you replace you can buy after market windows that will be guaranteed for life...They would cost about $275/each installed...or you can buy windows for about $ 125 each that are similar to the original windows and get another 10 years..

A good glass shop can replace the termopane glass with either a triple or double. It is a sealed unit and and better replaced by a pro. The is no reason to get a whole new window unless the frame is bad. Cost should be around $75.00-$100.

after market windows

hello,
is asking the dealer (who is ordering a new mh for me) to put in these aftermarket lifetime windows in exchange for his windows an outlandish request?
thanks,

Probably...you might ask..some modular companies have additional options for windows of better quality...

Retro fitting would be very expensive..because you are paying twice for the windows....

You get the same energy benefits from standard windows with storms...unfortunately most offered are single hung storms and it is hard to clean between the 2 windows..
