Thanks to all on here for supplying us with a wealth of information as we begin our search for our next home.
We are a little confused about the possible quality of a home we just looked at which has the perfect floor plan for us.The confusion arises from the floor plan sheet we were given. We realize that Champion homes are sold under many different names and also from reading other posts that quality varies greatly from one plant to another. We saw the home on the lot of a "Champion" dealer. The floor plan heading lists the home as a "Summit Crest Division Model#527R".The page description at the bottom says"Redman Homes Coastal Region Sanford, NC Plant #140.Soooo....
is this a Champion, a Summit Crest or a Redman home - does it matter - and how do we know the quality of workmanship to be expected from this plant?
Any help will be greatly appreciated and we'll probably have many more questions for you helpful people before our quest for the
perfect home is over.
Thanks a millon,
Chuck and Kellie
Champion/Redman/Summit Crest???
Re: Champion/Redman/Summit Crest???
It is all of the above...
Summit crest is a model of the Redman plant in NC...Champion ownes Redman as well as many other manufacturers in the country...
Champion ownership is somewhat different than most the other large companies...They buy the stock and do little in operating the plants..Each Champion owned company operates on its own with little corporate involvement except they have a much better buying leverage than the companies did when they were on there own...
You are shopping like many do...floorplan...but you should back up and punt a little....Get up to speed about the construction differences in the industry...Find homes of the construction model you want and can afford...Then chose a floorplan to suit your needs...Many plants will build any floorplan...or have many unpublished floorplans available...Overall the long haul...construction qualility is the most important feature...

this may help
hi chuck and kellie,
this spec comparison sheet may help you do what mr. murray suggests.
do you know difference between modular, manufactured, ubc/ibc and hud?
i am using this sheet, which i put together listening to advise from wiser people on this site, to compare companies. also, when you find what you want, find out where it is built and ask mr. murray what he thinks of its quality of construction. quality can vary widely within a company depending upon where it is built. look for at least a four star energy guide rating on your home.
